Geoff Yates
Nurse Unit Manager - Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice – Manly
Geoff has been a nurse his entire adult work life and believes he was 'hard-wired' to be a nurse. Starting out as a Trainee Enrolled Nurse back in 1997, and working his way up since - Geoff has spent the majority of his time at St.Vincent's Health Australia, Sydney Campus in the ICU setting. Geoff worked as a bedside CNS in the general/neuro ICU for 15 years, then went into nurse management at St.Vincent's, followed by 2.5 years at the Northern Beaches Hospital. Geoff is now the Nurse Unit Manager for the yet to be opened Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH) in Manly on the Northern Beaches, which is set to open early in 2023. Geoff is the father of 3 young boys, aged 9, 6 and 4 and his wife is also in the nursing profession. Geoff's vision for Australia's first Young Adult Hospice is to build a team and service from the ground up, where the culture will allow and promote the highest level of patient care to this very unique cohort of patients and their families. Geoff is still pinching himself everyday, feeling both incredibly privileged and humbled to have been appointed in this role. He is surrounded by a great network of peers that share his enthusiasm and passion for the success of the AYAH and Geoff's 'nurture nurses' philosophy.
