Abigail Franklin

Palliative Medicine Consultant
Abbie qualified in Medicine from The University of Edinburgh in 2000, before undertaking training in Surgery. She moved to Australia in 2005 to be nearer to her husband, and have subsequently undertaken further training in a very wide range of fields, culminating in completing training in General Practice and then Adult Palliative Medicine. Abbie subsequently worked in the adult palliative care system developing special interests in Advance Care Planning and Cancer Pain Management.  She has been part of the electronic Therapeutics Guidelines Palliative Care review team (due to be published later this year), and coauthored two editions of the chapter on Pain Management in the Textbook of Palliative Care (Eds MacLeod and van den Block). Abbie started working as a Palliative Medicine Consultant at the first Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice in Australia when it opened in Manly, NSW in February 2023 and have since developed a strong interest in the transition process for patients moving between Paediatric and Adult Palliative Care Services. Out of work she enjoys walking with our family Labrador (who has recently passed her therapy dog assessment to come into the Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice!) and baking.
