PCA Connect presents ‘Beyond the Walls’, a webinar exploring the needs that exist beyond the hospital walls for children, young people, and their families with palliative care needs.
- Kelly Oldham – Nurse Practitioner, Hummingbird House at Home Lead, Brisbane
- Tim Rogers – National Advocacy and Collaborations Manager, Redkite
Joined by two lived experience speakers Mikaela Norris and Noelyne Davis, who have first-hand experience across the paediatric and adult health and disability sectors.
As a community, and as professionals, we want to ensure the families we walk alongside are supported in all parts of their journey, but the needs that arise outside of their time in hospital can be hard to predict or to prepare families for. This webinar gives a rare opportunity to hear candidly from young people, parents, and community service providers about what happens ‘beyond the walls’ of the hospital and how health professionals can prepare and support families for the challenges they may face.
In addition to hearing what needs exist in the community, you will hear from service providers and explore learnings from the Paediatric Palliative Care National Action Plan community consultations around what services exist and processes for referral.
This webinar is produced in collaboration with the Paediatric Palliative Care National Action Plan Project. This project represents a unique opportunity to support health professionals to respond to the specialist needs of children with life-limiting conditions. The project also addresses the needs of parents and carers seeking assistance to care for a child with high medical needs and life-limiting conditions.
The project is in collaboration with Palliative Care Australia (PCA) and Paediatric Palliative Care Australia New Zealand (PaPCANZ) and is funded by the Australian Government.
PCA Connect is a newly developed project providing health professionals a link to learning and community.
