Caring Together - an introduction to paediatric palliative care

Clear and compassionate information helps people make sense of paediatric palliative care and the support available for the whole family. Caring Together was developed to provide this understanding and support.

The booklet outlines the choices that may be available, how to involve children in decisions, and what to expect when it comes to communication, information and support.

Caring Together also provides space to pause, reflect, ask questions and have important conversations.

Reading this information may feel overwhelming and raise many questions. If you’re feeling uncertain about what to do now, take time to reflect, speak with your family, and reach out to your Primary Medical Care Team and Paediatric Palliative care team – they’re there to help you process everything and support you in finding the answers you need.

Caring together may help families to:

  • Understand their child’s care options
  • Know who is part of their care team
  • Feel confident asking questions
  • Find support in moments of uncertainty

Caring together may help clinicians to:

  • Provide a gentle, accessible entry point to paediatric palliative care
  • Support meaningful conversations with families
  • Share clear, consistent information
  • Strengthen culturally safe and family-centred communication
